Every compound bow starts off with a basic set up that provides you with the opportunity to custom build the added features that provide increased accuracy and smoothness of shot. These accessories include things such as bow stabilizers, bow sights, arrow rests and string suppressors among various other items. The range of options available for each of these pieces of equipment can vastly alter the performance of your compound bow.
If your bow is particularly powerful and capable at shooting at above 300 feet per second there may be a little bit of a trade off with some slight vibration through the bow. This is where bow stabilizers can be used to give the bow some additional weight and vibration dampening. It can also be used to better balance the bow. The type of stabilizer that you might use may be determined by the type of archery you intend on taking part in and the terrain that you may be covering while carrying your bow.
A bow sight is an essential part of the compound bow, particularly if shooting with consistent accuracy is important to you. Bow sights are available with 1, 3, 5 or 7 pins and these pins can be adjusted to sight targets at a range of distances. Alternatively, a bow hunter might choose to use a bow sight that has a single vertical pin that can be adjusted between shots. In both cases shooting with a bow sight provides you with a way of ensuring you are sighting the target correctly.
An arrow rest is also a preferred piece of equipment that both bow hunters and competition shooters like to use. They allow the arrow to rest in perfect alignment with the target and then, when the string is released, may either drop away to let the arrow fly free or simply provide the arrow a sturdy base to get it moving in a straight line. There are four main types of arrow rests available, drop away arrow rests, shoot-thru arrow rests, containment arrow rests and pressure rests.
No matter how advanced a new compound bow may be it can always be improved with the addition of any of the above pieces of equipment and more. Using them helps to custom build your bow to meet your personal shooting requirements.
